Lyrics

Unless this is the first page of Oceans and Galaxies you have visited, you've probably determined that I am a big fan of music. Music videos, songs inspiring stories...you get the idea. This page is devoted to music I feature (either directly or indirectly) in my stories. The title, performer, album, writer, and other pertinent information will be included, as well as what story or video it fits into and how. Clicking on the title will get you the lyrics. The list is alphabetical by song title.

All About Our Love - Sade - Lovers Rock
(Sade Adu) 2000 Sony/Epic
*Used for a music video of the same name. Short and sweet :)

Am I The Only One? - Barenaked Ladies - Maybe You Should Drive
(Ed Robertson) 1994 WB Music Corp./Treat Baker Music
*The first time I heard this song, I really thought it could be used to describe the way Paris feels about Janeway. After I wrote "The Wrong Man Was Convicted", I realized that Paris would most definitely have something to say about dancing with the captain, and that was my chance to use this song.

Bitch - Meredith Brooks - Blurring the Edges
(Brooks/Peiken) 1997 EMD/Capitol
*Used for a music video of the same name. I love this song; it's one of my two theme songs :) And of course it made a fun music video, too.

Cocoon - Joydrop - Metasexual
(Payne/Slone) 1999 Tommy Boy
*Used for a music video of the same name. Good song, good group (the lead singer played Gail on LFN), and an easy music video!

Extreme Ways - Moby - 18
(Moby) 2002 V2
*Used in a music video of the same name. Very LFN song. Thanks to Beth from DA for introducing me to this tune. :)

Flowers Bloom - Mandalay - Solace
(Nicola Hitchcock/Saul Freeman) 1998 V2 Records
*Featured in "Beauty and the Brain." I thought the first verse was fitting, so I borrowed it.

Gentle Rain - Diana Krall - Love Scenes
(Luis Bonfa/Matt Dubey - 1965) 1997 UNI/Impulse
*Mentioned in "Memories of Paradise and Hell." It's the definitive Operations and Madeline song, so I had to put it up here.

I Can't Make You Love Me - Nancy Wilson - Greatest Hits
(M. Reid/A. Shamblin) 1994 Sony Music Entertainment Inc.
*Used for the music video "Quinn's Lament." It was the perfect song to describe Quinn's relationship with Paul and, by extent, Madeline.

I Didn't Know I Was Looking for Love - Everything but the Girl - Home Movies: The Best Of EbtG
(Watt/Thorn) 1993 WEA (UK)
*Used in the music video "I Didn't Know." I wanted to use EbtG for a video, but their songs are really hard to do! This was one of the easier ones.

I Won't Say I'm in Love - Susan Egan - Disney's Hercules
(Menken/Zippel) 1997 Wonderland Music Company/Walt Disney Music Company
*Used for a music video with the same name. Perfect Madeline song. I loved Hercules, so I knew I had to use it some time.

I'm a Believer - The Monkees - Greatest Hits
(Diamond) 1995 WEA/Rhino
*Used in the music video "I'm a Believer." Too cute!

I'm With You - Avril Lavigne - Let Go
(Avril Lavigne and The Matrix) 2002 Arista
*Used in a music video by the same name. I think everyone can relate to this song in some manner or another.

If I'm Not in Love - Kathy Troccoli - Kathy Troccoli
(Dawn Thomas) 1994 Reunion Records
*Used in the music video "If I'm Not in Love with You." Another perfect Madeline song.

If You're Gone - Matchbox 20 - Mad Season
(Rob Thomas) 2000 Atlantic
*Used for a music video with the same name. This is just one of those pop songs that I like. :)

Iris - Goo Goo Dolls - City of Angels
(John Rzeznik) 1998 Warner Bros.
*Used for the music video "Who I Am." I used to really like this song, but it's so overplayed, I get sick of it after more than one listen. Still, it's pretty.

It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song) - Vonda Shepard - Songs from Ally McBeal
(Rudy Clark - 1963) 1998 Sony
*Used as the inspiration for the fic "That's Where It Is." Cute song, I love the Vonda version. And it made an amusing fic, too!

Just a Girl - No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom
(Stefani, Dumont) 1995 Interscope
*Used in the music video by the same name. I remember listening to this song all the time when it came out and thinking it applied to me. It really doesn't, but I like it for Nikita.

Let's Leave - Jeremy Davenport with Diana Krall - Maybe in a Dream
(Davenport/McLean) 1998 TELARC
*Featured in "Let's Leave." It's your typical jazzy love song, so it fit the scene perfectly.

The Look of Love - Diana Krall - The Look of Love
(Bacharach/Davis) 2001 Verve Records
*Provided the inspiration for the drabble "The Look of Love," written in honor of the album's release. I love the song, and Diana Krall is a musical goddess, so it fits :)

Love Affair - kd lang - Twister
(Morricone/Berman/Bergman) 1996 WB Music Corp.
*Used in a music video of the same name. I love this song, both with lyrics and without. I was listening to it, and an LFN scene popped into my head. Thus one of my favorite music videos was born :)

Loving You - Holly Cole - Romantically Helpless
(Stephen Sondheim) 2000 EMI
*Used in a music video of the same name. I love Holly. I love this song. I have it by her, as well as a duet with Nancy Wilson and James Ingram. I like this version better :)

Make It Go Away - Holly Cole - Romantically Helpless
(Laura Harding, Aaron Davis) 2000 EMI
*Used in a music video of the same name. This is a newer, much prettier version of "Make It Go Away" (there are two). Plus this was the second music video I ever made. A nice song about needing someone.

Misty - Ella Fitzgerald - Pure Ella
(Burke/Garner) 1998 UNI/UTV
*Mentioned in the LFN PWP "Dissonance" and used for its changes in pitch. And I simply adore the song.

Morning Song - Jewel - Pieces of You
(Jewel Kilcher) 1994 Wiggly Tooth
*Inspired the drabble "Morning Song." It's a sweet song, and I've always had the idea to do something based off of it.

Never There - Cake - Prolonging the Magic
(McCrea) 1998
*Used in a music video of the same name. I first heard this song last summer, and it's stuck with me ever since. It's just fun!

Old Devil Moon - Don Francks and Petula Clark - Finian's Rainbow
(Lyrics: E.Y. Harburg, Music: Burton Lane) 1968
*Another music video. I discovered this song because Don Francks (Walter from LFN) sings in it! And it's great; he's got a fantastic voice! Plus it made a cute TR video :) Nice love song.

Save Your Love for Me - Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley - Nancy Wilson & Cannonball Adderley
(B. Johnson) 1962 EMD/Blue Note
*This one actually hasn't been used in anything, but it was the song that Ops and holo-Maddy danced to, so I had to put it up!

She's All I Ever Had - Ricky Martin - Ricky Martin
(Noriega/Rosa/Secada) 1999 Sony/Columbia
*Used in a music video with the same name. Makes a good TR song, I think! (Of course, I think just about every song makes a good TR song, so that probably isn't saying much.)

Slow Like Honey - Fiona Apple - Tidal
(Fiona Apple) 1996 FHW Publishing
*Featured indirectly in "The Lesson." Madeline dances to this song. I needed something really slow and steamy, so I scanned my CD collection and stumbled across Fiona. While writing, I had the song on repeat for over three hours.

Smile - Vitamin C featuring Lady Saw - Vitamin C
(Colleen Fitzpatrick, Josh Deutsch) 1999 Elektra
*Used in a music video by the same name. What a fun, upbeat song. It always makes me smile!

So This is Love - Irene Woods and Mike Douglas - Classic Disney vol. 2
(Livingston/David/Hoffman) 1995 Walt Disney Records
*Used in my first all-video music video by the same name. Short and sweet Disney song, probably the only thing I liked about Cinderella.

Softly Softly - Sweetback - Sweetback
(Matthewman/Musze) 1996 Epic Records
*Used in the fic "Duty Bound." I chose it because it had one great line, but I really like the song anyway. Great to dance to, I'm sure!

Temple - Beverly Klass - La Femme Nikita - Music from the Television Series
(Beverly Klass and Sean Samuel) 1998 Boxx Music Publishing
*Inspired the drabble "The Tower, Our Temple." Although it's typically thought of as a Nikita/Michael song (see the episode "Escape"), I just couldn't help myself :)

Thank You - Dido - No Angel
(Armstrong/Herman) 1999 Arista
*Used in a music video by the same name. I've found that almost all of Dido's songs can be made into TR music videos. Project? ;) (Note: I've already done three of her songs, and Slacking Lurker did two others!)

To Where You Are - Josh Groban - Josh Groban
(Richard Marx, Linda Thompson) 2001 143 Records
*Used in a music video by the ssame name. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard!

We Are The Champions - Queen - Greatest Hits Vol. 1
(Freddie Mercury) 1978 UNI/Hollywood
*Featured in the drabble "Champions." Someone mentioned this song on a karaoke post, so I decided to bring that idea to life. Also featured in a music video of the same name.

The Weakness in Me - Joan Armatrading - 10 Things I Hate About You
(Armatrading) 1999 A&M Records Inc.
*Featured indirectly in the fic "The Weakness in Me." This song sparked my whole obsession with the Paul/Madeline/Charles love triangle (or whatever you want to call it).

Why Should I Care - Diana Krall - When I Look in Your Eyes
(Clint Eastwood) 1999 Verve
*Used in a music video by the same name. I love Diana, but her songs are usually pretty difficult to do. This one, though, made an exceptional Paul/Madeline/Renee video :)

The World is Not Enough - Garbage - The World is Not Enough
(Arnold/Black) 1999
*Used in a music video of the same name. Talk about a song that describes Section One! Aside from "Spies" by Coldplay, this song makes me think of LFN every time. However, it was made for the Bond movies, and it's my favorite Bond theme. My music video features everyone in Section and lots of explosions! :)

The Wrong Man Was Convicted - Barenaked Ladies - Maybe You Should Drive
(Stephen Duffy and Steven Page) 1994 WB Music Corp./Treat Baker Music
*Featured in "The Wrong Man Was Convicted." The song just seemed to fit a jilted man's situation so well (namely, Chakotay in my little world), I had to borrow it. I couldn't figure out how to use it until my friend Beth reminded me that Paris is a fan of the 20th century and could very well like BNL. Problem solved--thanks, Beth :)
