I think it's a curse: any movie with a soundtrack composed by Tangerine Dream is automatically odd (see "The Soldier" for more about this freaky band). Well, "The Keep" was just that: really odd. Alberta plays Eva Cuza, the daughter of a medieval historian who is called in to help the Nazis figure out what is killing their soldiers. The Nazis didn't bet on the killer to be this big puff of smoke with glowing red eyes and a red brain. And after I watched an hour of this movie (I was actually enjoying it), Eva and the mysterious stranger with the freaky eyes that shoot out lasers had their sex scene, and I turned it off. It made absolutely no sense whatsoever and bordered on the tantric. (I hate sex scenes and romances where the main characters just suddenly end up in bed with nothing leading up to the moment.) Then a friend at school who had seen it told me to finish the movie because it makes more sense at the end. So I finished the movie, and it made a bit more sense--but not a lot. Notably, Alberta gets to scream and cry a lot, hee hee. I wonder if she was hired because of her hair, since it was always blowing in the wind! I would say rent it and watch it for Alberta (because she was once again fantastic), but the movie did not impress me too terribly. It was similar to "The Mummy" in some respects, so if you liked that, you might like this. :) Also of note: there are several different endings to this movie, but they are television endings so you're probably not likely to find them by buying different copies of the movie. Another note: Bruce Payne (Jurgen) was in here! (He's one of the two dumb border guards who tries to stop the stranger from entering the country on his motorbike, hee hee.)
Note: The pictures may look a little fuzzy in the thumbnail view, but when you click on them, they are high quality. Alberta has a lot of scenes in the dark and in smoke, by the way, so some of the caps look a little odd.
