This idea for this drabble came from my rhetoric class, where we read "Encomium of Helen" by Gorgias. It is a sophist speech that attempts to refute the blame placed on Helen of Troy for causing the Trojan War. An encomium is basically a tribute or a statement of praise. Thus, I give you the Encomium of Madeline.

Encomium of Madeline

Quinn sighed. "You're thinking about Madeline, aren't you?"

Paul sat up in bed. "I'm sorry," he said callously.

"What was she like?"

"She was..." He sighed in remembrance. "Brilliant, and dedicated, and beautiful. A wonderful operative. She always tried to act aloof, but she had this smile." He chuckled. "Her whole face lit up when she smiled."

"She was never honest about her feelings for you."

"I knew how she felt. Words weren't necessary."

"I just don't understand how you could love someone like that."

"But I did...and I always will." His expression grew serious, his tone strained. "Always."
